With almost a decade of recording in casinos under my belt for my YouTube channel, I’ve developed various processes to try to ensure I can succeed at capturing great slot play, while other patrons in the casino aren’t generally inconvenienced. This question is a really good one to allow me to share some of that with you:
When you reserve machines for either your videos or group pulls, have there been patrons who were mad you were saving a machine or you were filming next to them?
Michelle E.
Thanks for the question Michelle! There’s definitely been occasions where other players have been less than thrilled that I was filming around them. In a couple of particular cases, they purposely tried to mess with me while recording! This was often in the earlier days, when recording was much less commonplace, and accepted, as it is today.
Over time, I’ve developed ways to minimize disruption to other players, and also work with our casino partners to ensure a great experience for group pull guests and other casino visitors.
In regards to filming, I really don’t have a schedule of which games I’m going to play, I just walk the casino floor and see what catches my eye. By doing that, I can also select games where other patrons are not sitting directly beside me or too close that I may inconvenience them. We also often film early mornings on weekdays, traditionally a slower period for casinos.
When slots are in rows, we’ll tend to take an end slot so we have the space to do what we need to do without crowding out other players, or blocking a second game to film.
More slots are now in round pods, reducing the challenges here, since there’s more space between machines. So that helps too.
When it comes to group pulls, we will generally work with casinos to pick machines that have ample space around them for a larger group, Some casinos go so far as to arrange things to ensure success, such as blocking off the space. Usually only a couple of machines around where we’ll be playing are impacted, if any at all, and again these often take place on weekdays when casinos aren’t as busy.
Ultimately, we want to have fun times in the casino, but we also want others to be able to enjoy themselves as well. We follow casino requirements to focus on the games, not other patrons, and do our best to leave room and not crowd out other gamblers.
That said, we often have others who want to gamble nearby (I hear I’m a lucky charm!), and that means on occasion we get to celebrate amazing moments with our neighbors too!
