People in our comments on posts and our social media pages love to identify random things that happen in life, and affix them to things casinos must be doing accordingly. Take this one:
Casinos know we gamblers get paid at the beginning of the month. And they tighten the slots. I truly believe this.

We do? Well, let’s start with the fact that people get paid on different cycles. Here at Flip The Switch’s parent BC Ventures we get paid on a twice monthly cycle, and we house one of the bigger gamblers out there.
But then are you going to the casino at the end of the month armed with this knowledge to get better payouts? If not, why not? Why would you go to the casino if you had absolutely accurate and guaranteed knowledge that the payouts aren’t as good at the beginning of the month?
But the reality is, if you’re a gambler, you’re going to go because of the reason(s) that compel you at a given time: you have free play, or there’s a gift giveaway, or the day ends in Y. And it could include, yes, you got paid, and your monthly entertainment budget has been replenished.
But it’s highly inefficient for casinos to be tinkering with payouts that will yield maybe 1-2% more back (certainly not enough to make a meaningful difference), when if you as a gambler are going with a set budget and are as likely as not to spend it while there.
Casinos might tweak payouts in their favor if they think players will stay the same amount of time and as such spend more, but the reality is they can’t take more than you as a player are willing to give, and changing payouts just changes the expected pace of winning that money.
Today’s casino floor is more data driven than ever, and the casinos doing the best are focusing on that balance between the need to make money as a business and the need to ensure players get a good session out of a visit, or else running the risk of chasing them away for being perceived as too tight.
Pay cycles are just not part of the calculation because players come for various reasons throughout the month. And slot paybacks just aren’t worth a constant tinker.
But if you think the casinos are out to get you, perhaps a different form of entertainment is worth considering. We don’t advise people to spend money where they don’t think they’re getting good value, or aren’t having fun.
