People watching in Las Vegas, specifically the downtown area, could almost be an Olympic Sport. Of course, like many other streets across America you can find familiar sights like business people headed to work, people taking their dogs for a walk, and others meeting up with friends. Now, take those certainties and add a little bit of that Vegas flair and you can imagine there are some sights to be seen.
On any given day, either if I was headed into work or about to relax with some gambling after, I could see showgirls, prison releases, weddings, and more than a few police chases. Downtown Las Vegas is truly a one of a kind place to take it all in. Read on below to learn some of my favorite people watching spots and consider a Fremont stakeout of your own next time you are in town.
5 Top Tier Downtown Las Vegas People Watching Spots
Whiskey Licker Up
Whiskey Licker Up has been one of my favorite restaurants under the Fremont Street canopy since it opened in 2019. I have always been a fan of bar food, especially when chicken sandwiches are on the menu. Whiskey Licker Up has one of the best buffalo chicken sandwiches I have ever had- on any given Vegas visit you can either find me overlooking Fremont or grabbing my sandwich to go to bring back to my patio room at Plaza.
My love for buffalo chicken aside, Whiskey Licker Up has two great options for observing the mayhem unfolding just a story below. I most typically will opt to sit at the bar that sits against the railing. You can see everything clearly including the performers in their assigned circles. Those performers make me nervous – I really dislike being shaken down for money (slot machines not included) so I always try to give them a wide berth. From my perch at Whiskey Licker Up, I am safe to watch their acts play out*.
The second option is the rotating bar. Yup, in case you didn’t know, one of the main draws of Whiskey Licker Up is the rotating bar that overlooks one of the Fremont Street concert stages. Depending on the events lineup, you can see DJs, ribbon dancers, and headliners within a stone’s throw of the bar. You can fully enjoy the stage below, the people all around, and some scrumptious food.
* Or not play out. There is a group of acrobats that is notorious for asking Fremont patrons to line up so they can flip over them. I have seen people stand in that line for ten minutes waiting to be jumped over. My theory is that the group uses the line as a way to entice people to circle up. The more people that circle, the more tips they could earn so they leave the “bait” line for as long as possible before actually flipping. Come to think of it, I don’t know if I have ever actually seen the flip…. just the line.
Carousel Bar

I love Carousel Bar! Once I got over my initial disappointment that the carousel would not in fact move, I quickly realized the bar is still amazing even without the ponies on the move. I absolutely adore being able to sit out front of The Plaza, under their iconic porte-cochère, and saddle up to play some table top gaming.
Unlike a typical haunt, even for Vegas, Carousel Bar brings the flair with a variety of fun drinks. Some may call souvenir cups gimmicks, but I am not one of those people. I love fun cups, when brands lean into the kitsch, and fully embrace being a hangout spot in one of the coolest places on Earth.
Since it has opened, Carousel Bar has played host to many of my downtown antics. I’ve celebrated more than one birthday, bellied up to the bar, brought countless friends from out of town, and have a nice stash of Aquarius memories to look back on. I would often meet Aquarius here for a drink or send him an “SOS” text if the lines were long to sneak me to the side. He never had to ask, he would always just wink or wave and magically my gin and soda would appear. While Aquarius is no longer with us, his memory will always be something I send up a cheers to.
Triple George Grill
Fancy option incoming! Triple George Grill is a great elevated option for those looking to wine and dine while Downtown. Located across the street from Downtown Grand, Triple George offers up some of the finer dinner options including seafood towers, Tomahawk steaks, and braised lamb shanks.
The people watching comes into play when you ask to sit on their outdoor patio. With Fremont Street being a quick walk down the block (under a minute, two if you hit the light), you still see all the hustle with a little less of the bustle. There is something about sipping a drink, grabbing a bite, and kicking back to watch the city pass by.
Legacy Club
If you have ever wondered what it feels like to be a bird, you should check out Legacy Club. Legacy Club brings people watching to a whole other level, 60 stories in the air, truly overlooking all of Vegas, including The Strip. This is a great location if you want to see it all, including breathtaking sunsets over the mountains, and if the time of year is right, fireworks.
Legacy Club does take reservations, if you want to snag a table for the sunset, make sure you look into their appropriately named “sunset package.” If the city lights at night are more of what you’re after, no worries. Legacy Club is open until at least 2 a.m. each night, 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturdays.
Fremont Street Experience Zipline
Now, if you really want to feel like you are flying, take a ride on the Fremont Street Experience (FSE) Zipline! This zipline, aptly named “SlotZilla” runs right down the middle of Fremont Street, putting you right in the middle of the action. If you look up, you’ll be closest to the canopy than ever before and if you look down, you’ll catch all sorts of activity and maybe even a concert.
I was able to take the zipline for a ride during the middle of a workday when I worked downtown. I remember trading someone that worked for FSE for tickets for my department to take a whirl. While I don’t remember what my side of the bargain was, I do remember my team had a great time! Our boss at the time, Kris, earned even more praise from us after not only green lighting the field trip but jumping into a harness herself.
Bonus Spot: Oscar’s
Try as I may to diversify my lists, someway or another, Oscar’s Steakhouse at The Plaza seems to sneak its way on there. And by sneak I mean lay claim to a spot, well earned thanks to their dependable and delicious food plus luxurious but not pretentious environment. With the addition of their outdoor dining, Oscar’s has solidified their spot as a prime people watching location.
Granted, even before their outdoor expansion, the dining windows inside allow for unmatched views of the Downtown area, especially Fremont Street. No matter where you sit in the restaurant the giant windows allow for the perfect view and at night it is truly something magical. While I joke about Oscar’s being a mainstay on any of my round ups, it is truly well earned.
Takeaway
Downtown Las Vegas continues to hold the keys to my heart, in part due to the entertainment that can be found by just taking in the sights. Do you have a favorite spot to watch all the action unfold? Let us know in the comments!
