There’s a lot of… information… out there, isn’t it? Some players think they have it down. Here’s one that was posted as a reply to our note about how your choice does matter on when given a choice of bonuses on screens like Dancing Drums:
The RNG (random number generator) determined payout when the spin button was pressed prior. Doesn’t matter what you select on the screen in any bonus.

Here’s the problem – this isn’t true for many slots.
There are two types of bonuses – predetermined ones, which are determined at the time the wager is placed, and what we’ll call true bonuses – ones that do use your picking, the RNG, etc. as factors in determining the bonus.
In the example we shared around a volatility choice, your choice does matter for an individual bonus. Over the long run, you’d expect the bonuses to pay similarly, but in an individual bonus, any option can under or overachieve.
Games like Jackpot Party are examples of true pick bonuses, where your choices do matter. The choices offered, like the spin outcomes on the base game, are mathematically balanced so that in the long run the bonuses will pay a certain percentage of the overall payback.
But there’s room for some crazy picking moments and rare scenarios even within a true pick scenario.
There are two things that are important for players to know. One is that slot designers have multiple ways to go about these questions. The other is that regardless of whether a bonus is true or predetermined, they are designed to work towards the payback percentage of the slot over the long run.
So, ultimately, while it’s a neutral choice for game makers, there are players who are very superstitious about these things, and we’re happy to reaffirm our statement that when you have a choice of bonus, it does have an impact from a volatility perspective within any given single bonus, and that’s why your choice matters.
