DraftKings Rocket is only a few years old, but it’s remarkable for a few reasons. First, it’s the rare game that’s built specifically for an online casino to really take off. It’s also the first crash game to really take off in the United States, no pun intended.
With a sequel already launched, we thought it was a good time to take a look at the original and what made it so special.
Base Game
This is another example of a game that is elegant in its own simplicity. You select your wager, and either set a manual stop point, in which you will automatically collect your win if the rocket reaches that level, or manually hit collect whenever you wish, as long as the rocket is still climbing.
If at any point the rocket explodes before you collect your prize, your stake is lost and the round is over. The longer the rocket climbs without exploding, the larger your potential win will be. It shows it as a multiple of your wager, so 2x means you’d collect 2x your wager, and so on.
So the basic idea is simple: Do you let the rocket keep growing, risking your wager, or do you play it safe and cash out quickly, locking in a profit for the round?
There’s no bonuses or features. It’s just place a wager, and try to collect before the rocket explodes and ends the round with no win.
But there’s a few design decisions that we also think make this stand out. One is that it’s build as a community game vs. a single player game. All the players are betting on the same rocket round, so you see when others cash out, and when others stay in on screen. It doesn’t impact the round, but it lets you see who’s in and who’s out.
Similarly, a recent outcomes list also appears on the screen. Like the roulette boards, it’s not indicative of what will happen, but it tends to give players a bit of something more that they like to see.
And finally, the RTP is a generous 97% – this outpaces online slots and some online tables, making it a pretty good gamble all things considered.
