Our Game Spotlight section now features hundreds of reviews of games, primarily slots, found in physical casinos, online casinos and social casino apps. Some of the brands overlap, and so naturally some wonder how a review translates between categories:
When Flip the Switch reviews a slot machine, is the review the same if the game is land based and can be found on a social casino, such as Jackpot Party (where no actual $ is won). I live in a state that does not allow online gaming for money, so Jackpot Party is one of several sites to play games. I rely on this play to determine if I want to play the game at an actual casino.

When we write a review about a slot machine, we’ll generally select a format in which we’re reviewing. Most commonly this will be an online or social casino, but we do review physical casino slots as well.
If it’s an online or social casino, we’ll reference where it can be played, so that’s generally a good indicator of the version we reviewed. If it’s a physical casino, we might reference more information about the in-casino version, or a slot locator if we have access to one.
Generally speaking, a brand that exists in multiple forms will play similarly when you see that brand in another form. But there can be some minor alterations between formats.
For instance, a game that has a progressive in a physical casino might have a static prize online or in a social casino app. Those static prizes may change with your spin level, whereas in a casino it’s the same prize across all wagers. Those subtle shifts can change the odds of certain things happening because the design is subtly different.
The RTP is also one of those things that isn’t known with an in-person casino slot, and generally a social casino slot, but is known in many cases with online slots. So a more generous setting in one format may play or feel a bit different than a less generous one in another, but without all the information it’s hard to do a truly apples to apples comparison.
All that said, the game’s basics, how a bonus works, frequency of triggering bonuses, etc. will all be similar across the board – the slot’s basic design is what makes that slot play and feel the way it does, and game makers take great pains to ensure the most consistent experience possible when you see a particular brand in a different form. If it didn’t play like the game you know it would be disappointing.
So overall an app like Jackpot Party can be a great way to enjoy the authentic experience of a slot theme and get to know some of the newer themes out there.
