We can’t convince this player, but we’re going to use the question anyway:
You cannot convince me that it’s about timing alone. It’s about if the machine is hot or not and which denomination it’s hitting at also. There’s definitely more than just one factor of timing.
Brandon P.
Here’s the problem – the examples you cite are all based on the timing.
A machine being hot or not is based on whether it previously paid. Whether a machine pays is based on when the button was pressed on previous spins. Timing.
Which denomination it’s hitting at is dependent on when someone pushes the button. Timing.
What you’re theoretically proposing if it’s not just timing is the slot machine has stacked all winning combinations on the 2 cent denomination, for instance, and so once you find it’s doing that, you’re going to win win win. And that unfortunately violates the regulations of how a slot machine works.
The Random Number Generator, or RNG, is king – it’s constantly working in the background. When you hit the spin button and make a wager, that leads to an outcome, and if you hit the button earlier or later, it would lead to a different outcome.
This is why Brian’s saying is it’s all about timing. We cannot make “decisions” as a player based on what has happened to a machine to improve our chances of winning. Why does a machine have to stay “hot” because the last few spins were winners? Why couldn’t it turn cold? Well, it can, because any outcome is possible on any press of the spin button.
Slots are not games of skill, but games of chance. The whole point of the timing element is to ensure a fair chance. We can’t game the system, and it really does all come down to the simple element of timing.

Sure it’s the timing. But for those of us of the superstitious ilk, it’s the rubbing on the “lucky” number or icon, how fast or slow I can hit the button, it’s the “lucky” rhythm or the “hot” game vs the “cold” one, the lucky outfit I wore or my lucky mascot I brought along. Maybe it was my horoscope for that day or whether my right palm or left palm itched. We KNOW what we believe works! Pffftt! to timing. Lol
Hey Bobbi! We love your comment and appreciate you sharing your perspective. We have nothing against superstitions, and many of them are harmless. But we do think it’s important to highlight when things aren’t actually happening, like chasing “hot” machines, because real money is still at stake. We’re not trying to yuck anybody’s yum, we’re just looking to keep it real over here.
