MGM Rewards has made a series of changes in recent years, ever since the relaunch of the program, replacing their previous Mlife offering. Each year there’s been some updates to the program to continue to fill out the various components players look for today.
For instance, in 2023, they introduced a daily tier accelerator, available to players in Las Vegas who accrue enough points in a single day to qualify. Last year, they launched tier status challenges, which allow those with higher tiers at other casinos to get a 90-day match, and have a reduced goal to try to earn the tier outright, similar to what airlines occasionally offer. (This status challenge program has returned for 2025 as well.)
This year, they’ve done it again, with their latest updates adding some additional benefits in between the tiers, which have pretty big point gaps to achieve. But they’ve also made a tweak, clarifying the celebration reward that is earned by players earning the Gold or Platinum tier (matches don’t qualify).
First, the new – certain tier point milestones will now earn players a head start for the following year:
- Earn 50,000 Tier Credits in 2025, and carry over 7,500 Rollover Tier Credits to start 2026.
- Earn 125,000 Tier Credits in 2025 and carry over a total of 25,000 Rollover Tier Credits to start 2026.
For those who can’t quite get to those bigger milestones, this can help at least maintain what they’ve earned with a head start, and possibly be a helpful extra lift next year to get to that higher tier.
The celebration dinners earned at each tier level starting at Gold has been tweaked. The $100 for Gold and $200 for Platinum members remain the same, but now they’re formally being recognized as MGM Rewards Points offerings, meaning they don’t have to be used for food, but can be used how any other MGM Reward Points can be used. This was unofficially what a lot of players were receiving to begin with, so this just clarifies and formalized that policy.
Other perk adjustments include better Marriott Bonvoy to MGM status match alignment, meaning more players will qualify, and some will qualify for a better tier via tier matching than before. Pearl members qualify for the first time, matching with Marriott Bonvoy Silver status. Gold members now match to Marriott Bonvoy Gold.
The annual cruise benefit shared with Platinum and NOIR MGM Rewards players is now extended to Gold level players, while Platinum players will see an increased array of options.
Overall, after what was a heavy increase in requirements to earn tiers in 2022, things have been slowly improving with the various additions. While it’s not a return to the Mlife levels by any means, there’s more doors open for players to pursue paths to higher tiers, and a more generous array of perks to enjoy when they get there.
