Most slot players are excited about free play, and sometimes wonder if there’s anything else they need to know about it, such as today’s question:
If I’m putting in Free Play with my card, do I still get slot dollars back or should you not put your card in with FreePlay?
Deborah S.
First of all, most casinos generally require a player to use their card to download their free play. Some casinos require you to activate free play on a machine, and then your bet is rebated back to you with each spin. As a result, in some cases you may have no choice but to use your card.
In other cases, your card isn’t necessarily required, but we don’t think it’s a problem to use your card. We’ve shared previously that free play and cash work the same in the slot, and from a payback perspective doesn’t make a difference either.
Normally you don’t receive any sort of tier credits or earned comp dollars, such as slot dollars, while doing the initial play through of your free play. However, once you complete that first playthrough, it’s now cash, and playing with cash does earn you points and slot dollars, so at that point it’s that much more important to have your card in to be sure you earn those benefits.
And we do say normally because we’ve tripped across the odd scenario where a casino does give you tier credits or comp dollars on free play, which feels like double dipping but hey, if that’s what they choose to offer, we’ll take it!
So all that considered, if your casino requires the card, that answers that, but even if they don’t, we still say it’s fine – the biggest reason being the moment you complete your required playthrough, if you keep playing you’ll be able to ensure you earn all the tier credits and comps from that play.
