Different types of slots are designed for different types of players. That was evident when we asked players on our Flip The Switch Facebook page what they didn’t like about slots. And some things some players liked were the things other players didn’t like!
Old-School Reel Slots
Some players like the newer video slots more than the old school style reel slots.
- Can’t stand 3 or 5 reel old school, but will play if I have to. Leeann H.
- Not a big fan of the older mechanicals because I keep thinking in the back of my mind that I am only losing because the gears are worn and it just slips past the winning combo…. Jack C.
Modern, Complex Slots
On the other hand, some players like the simpler times, and reject the more modern video slots accordingly.
- I like VGT slots but not the newer slots. Too fast and seem too complicated. But that is just me. Debra H.
- Machines that are TOO interactive. Someone I just want the win. I don’t like when it takes 3 minutes to get your $10 win. Katherine A.
Bad Bonus Payouts
We play for bonuses, but when the bonuses don’t deliver… that’s a point some players didn’t like.
- Low line payouts. Or games with “coins” that start at $4 when you are betting $20. Argh!! Helen C.
- Dead spins and bad bonuses, I have had a bonus that just paid the activation then nothing else. Colin C.
- You win a bonus like free spins then barely get your bet back! All bonuses should be at least 10X or I’m cashing out and finding a better machine. David S.
- $0 or bonuses that are less than the bet. I wish there was a bonus minimum like at least two times the bet or something. Michelle L.
- I agree on hard to get bonuses and you don’t get anything back. Should be illegal to not give you anything back in a bonus. Lol but I guess that’s the only way. Rosemary T.
- That you can get a zero dollar bonus!! (It’s happened to me twice) Especially if it took forever to get the bonus too. Jennifer G.
Fun fact: One manufacturer heard customer feedback about hating 0 bonuses and launched a “Bonus Guarantee.” But then players hated that because it popped up loudly that their bonus stunk. While they still have games that feature this, it’s much more subtle now, but still ensures some payout for certain bonuses or features.
No Sound… or Too Loud Sound
Sound’s a huge one for some players, and it makes sense – audio is a critical part of the package, and when a slot doesn’t have it, it loses something. But sometimes it can be TOO loud, making it less fun too.
- When the sound is turned off. Crystal F.
- No sound and 3 lines. Georgina W.
- The ones that are loud and should have volumes you can’t go past so you don’t kill your neighbors. And that one slot you play that the bell goes off for each ten dollars you win, I believe it was. Pat P.
