While many slots nowadays have some form of a hold and spin mechanic, many players think the games work similarly, including around topics like how you win a Grand jackpot. Here’s an example:
I was playing a Huff N’ More Puff machine. I got the buzzsaws, then the upgrade then the mansions. I filled the screen with mansions plus one that wouldn’t fit. My wife thinks I should have got the Grand jackpot. Is she right?

Sadly your wife is not correct here. While many hold and spin games have filling the screen as the marker, that’s not the case in terms of the Huff N’ Puff series.
Instead, Grand is one of the coins that can flip over when a Mansion is on the board. On versions with a wheel, like Huff N’ More Puff, you can also win the Grand by landing the Grand space on the wheel.
Huff N’ Puff games are not the only one where a full board is not how you win a Grand. For example, the other Lock It Link series of slot machine games (of which the original Huff N’ Puff is a part) do not award the Grand from a full board. Instead there’s specific ways you can win them.
Other game series where the top progress is won in a different way include:
- Mighty Cash series: It’s won as one of the coins that land. Some can only land on the trigger, while others it can land anytime during the bonus.
- Fire Link series: The top progressive Mega can land as a ball, usually only on the top row or in a couple of specific places during the Fire Link feature.
So filling the screen can be an exciting moment, but it’s not a guarantee of a five-figure prize.
