As we’ve shared elsewhere on the site, the Buffalo series has found various jumping off points to expand and evolve. The massive hit that was Buffalo Gold Collection has meant there are outright sequels of this sequel, and Buffalo Gold Max Power is one iteration.
This version raises the stakes with a higher bet, but also adds variable height reels and a sixth reel to also raise the potential. And it’s one of the newer Buffalo games to make the leap to real money online gaming. Let’s take a look at this game, and we’ll also share where you can play it with cash right now.
Base Game
Unlike most versions of Buffalo, the Buffalo Gold Max Power slot is a six reel variation with variable reel heights. Each reel can have between 2 and 6 symbols, and like all other Buffalo games there’s no pay lines, but instead it’s an all ways pays game. This means you have up to 46,656 ways to win.
Of course, it could also go as low as 64 ways to win if all the reels had two spaces. A standard Buffalo game, by comparison, is 1.024 ways to win. So it underscores the increased volatility that can be seen here.
This is one of the first games by Aristocrat Interactive that doesn’t force the same bet structure as in the physical casino. In casinos your floor is an 80 credit bet (80 cents on 1 cent denomination) but online it’s a 30 credit bet increment, meaning a much more accessible 30 cent starting bet for lower betting players. We like this approach to making a game more accessible to a broader array of budgets. It goes both ways too; you can do up to a $90 bet here.
Otherwise, things are pretty similar to other Buffalo games, and in particular the Buffalo Gold series. Line payouts remain similar, with boosted six of a kind payouts for those times when you successfully reach across the reels with a particular symbol. Some of the symbols that normally pay 2 of a kind don’t here, so keep that in mind.
Wilds still appear in the middle reels, but now that there’s four reels in the middle, you can get up to four wilds on reels 2-5.
Free Games Feature
Three or more coins will trigger the Free Games Feature. With a sixth reel, it adds another level if you manage six coins to trigger the bonus, but the rest of the spin counts should look familiar to other Buffalo games:
- 3 coins: 8 Free Games
- 4 coins: 15 Free Games
- 5 coins: 20 Free Games
- 6 coins: 25 Free Games
Retriggers are possible for as little as 2 coins, which add 5 Free Games; three or more coins on the retrigger add the same number of games as listed above for that amount of coins.
Here wilds have a guaranteed 2x or 3x multiplier, but critically that fourth wild now means the potential for up to 81x the line hit (and, that means you’ve got at least some number of five or six of a kinds).
This is also a Buffalo Gold sequel, so you’re still collecting Buffalo heads in the bonus to convert the semi-premium animal heads to Buffalo symbols as you collect:
- 4 Gold Heads: Eagles turn to Buffalo
- 7 Gold Heads: Cougars turn to Buffalo
- 13 Gold Heads: Wolves turn to Buffalo
- 15 Gold Heads: Elk turn to Buffalo
Between the upgrades, the multipliers and the sixth reel, the bonus can get pretty intense pretty fast, even moreso than the standard Buffalo Gold. But the variable reel heights also add a wrinkle and can pinch some opportunities to line things up – it’s less reliable than the previous game, another sign of its increased volatility.
