On a live stream a few months ago, Brian was rapid firing on Prosperity Link and landed all 15 orbs in one shot, triggering the bonus, but more importantly winning a Grand jackpot:
This led to a recent question about the moment:
Now that you “stopped” the reels on Prosperity Link and got an instant Grand, do you have a different opinion about stopping the reels doesn’t change the outcome of your spin?
Danny T.
No, Brian (and our) opinion hasn’t changed. Over the years we’ve learned how a slot machine works, and armed with that knowledge we know it’s when we hit Play to make our wager and start the spin that matters, not stopping the reels.
So when Brian stopped the reels to land all 15, that outcome was decided when he placed the wager. At the time, he was rapid firing, so it’s certainly possible that if he hadn’t been rapid firing it wouldn’t have happened, but that has nothing to do with stopping the reels.
Manufacturers go to great pains to underscore slots aren’t skill-based and therefore your stopping the reels has no impact – a good percentage of them now even declare this in the pay table information just for good measure.
We’ve also spoken with manufacturers over the years, as well as read up on the various regulations that slots have to abide by when certified for various casino markets. They underscore the fact that the outcome on traditional Vegas style slots is decided when you place the wager to start the spin. Stopping the reels just accelerates the outcome.
So, our opinion really is moot, because the fact of the matter is that’s simply how it works. That outcome would have happened whether Brian sped to the outcome or not… and what an outcome!
