A hand banging on a slot machine

Some days, we love to share facts with you all. Today is not one of those days. Instead, we’re putting on our speculation hat (we’re warning you now!) with today’s spicy question:

What results are button slappers hoping to obtain? For instance, during a bonus round, are they slapping the buttons hoping to return a larger payout???

Maria

We wish we could get into the brains of the button slappers, screen bangers, and so on, but ultimately we think they are somehow trying to control the outcome of a game that’s not skill based.

Some of us on team Flip The Switch have to move when around button slappers or screen bangers, because the sound and sights of it impact us. You’ve heard of second-hand smoke? How about the undocumented effects of second-hand button slapping? The headache, the loud and disturbing clicking.

What is even worse for us is those banging a screen sufficiently hard that you start to see the colors changing – you know the screen is holding on but just barely.

Recently Brian Christopher attempted to move his monitor on his desk and the LED screen cracked, forcing him to get a new one. That sort of scenario, an accident in Brian’s case, can cost hundreds of dollars when talking about a screen on a home computer. But once you get into the realm of damaging a slot machine, those repairs can get into the thousands of dollars. And casinos, if they catch the culprit, will absolutely bill the player responsible for it.

We’ve seen the sticker “malfunctions void all pays and plays,” right? Well breaking a machine by banging it may not void the pays, but it will require a reverse pay, if you know what we’re getting at.

Some players ask us why casinos don’t stop it. Well, for one, these machines can take some abuse – part of their testing is to make sure they can handle their buttons being banged up by the more forceful players. But they also want to minimize conflict, and not chase out players spending money either. It’s a delicate balance, but they also know they are likely to make the player pay for any damage, so ultimately they have ways to deal with it.

And so as players we must deal with it too. And if you’re like us, you’ll patiently tell players every time you see it happening that it doesn’t do a darned thing. They probably will keep doing it anyway.

At my casino they have contest where they have up to 20 slots with free play side by side and you have X amount of time to spend that free play and whatever is in the machine at the end you keep so people get slap happy

It makes sense it would happen in that potential scenario, Sharron! In certain scenarios (slot tournaments are another) we get the button slapping would happen.
