Among the questions we regularly get from Flip The Switch readers, as well as Brian’s fans on his various social media pages, is when he’s going to pay a specific casino a visit. Here’s an example:
Would you ever come to Canada and do a group pull? I know we have non-smoking places here too.Dolly
We thought it might be helpful to share some of the key aspects that need to line up for a visit to be realistic.
First and foremost, Brian has since the start of 2023 committed to only promoting smokefree casinos. This means more than just a casino with a non-smoking space, especially since many make you walk through smoking areas to get to the non-smoking ones, and don’t separate the air between the two.
The good news is there’s quite a few properties that meet this definition, a number which grew after the start of the pandemic. And some states are considering closing their casino smoking loophole, which would open up additional opportunities.
Allows Video Recording
Some casinos are still very militant about not allowing video recording on their casino floors. While we’d love to visit every casino, in every country, the channel still needs content, so we have to prioritize visits where recording takes place.
This isn’t to say we’ll never visit a casino without recording – we certainly have on occasion – but with limited travel windows thanks to ongoing commitments with a variety of our partners, usually trips where we can film while there tend to take priority.
As the number of people following Brian Christopher has grown, one thing we’ve learned is that events are a critical part of the success of our visits. Events allow fans to have time to meet and chat with Brian, at a time when Brian is most available to give fans the attention they deserve.
It’s much harder to give that same attention when in the middle of filming or while on a live stream, although we still do give those who find us during those times a lucky wristband!
While a meet and greet is generally the minimum, we of course always hope to host other events like group pulls, but this is often up to the availability of space to host it and the casino’s comfort in doing so.
Another practical consideration is if schedules line up. Casinos have their own calendar of events they do to bring players into the casino, and Brian’s just one of many options they may look at and schedule.
The weeks they may have open may or may not align with Brian’s calendar, and sometimes, it simply comes down to whether the weeks they hope to host Brian are available or not. Some places we have loved visiting in the past haven’t lined up for a follow-up visit very quickly because of simple scheduling issues. For example, they will not choose to host Brian on Super Bowl weekend, as they’ll already be at full capacity.
Able to Host Our Team
We often get asked if we get perks for visiting casinos, and as you can imagine, a gambler of Brian’s level tends to rack up perks quite naturally. When we visit a new property, we do bring a team with us (including Brian’s videographer and on-site support), and we do request that the team be taken care of as part of our promoting the property. But even getting there, the flight costs are expensive, having spent over $40,000 on travel alone in 2023.
Of course, the flip side to that is the level of gambling Brian will do, as well as the business brought in by his visit, helps the casino cover their side of the equation on this, so it’s not asking for something for nothing – it’s a part of the trade-off between our business and the casino.
Some, like Dolly, our question writer, have asked us to visit a wide array of other parts of the world – Canada, the UK, Australia, and so on – to host events and make a visit. Navigating the above hurdles is challenging in and of itself in the United States; laws in other countries can differ in what’s allowed and how they can be marketed, introducing their own challenges.
For instance, in Canada, filming privileges have historically been difficult to secure, making it more challenging to arrange a trip that allows for all of the activities to take place. Australia has very strict marketing rules for casinos that can limit what is possible.
Even with these difficulties to navigate, it’s something we definitely want to explore and do more of in the future! We actually just hosted our first-ever meet and greet in Australia last year, with the hopes of another this fall.
As the top casino influencer worldwide, Brian works hard to ensure a consistency to what he does, which includes hosting fan events and filming/going live from casinos across the country.
The logistics of making such a visit happen can get quite complicated at times, and so if Brian hasn’t visited a casino near you, one way you can help is simply letting the casino know you’d participate in a visit if they invited him. As we mentioned, the goal is something that works out well for everyone, and an event with demand is always going to at least get a look from a casino.
