The Buffalo series has seen dozens, if not hundreds, of incarnations at this point, but one of the strongest sequels to come out of the stable of slots is Buffalo Gold. Adding an enhancement to both the base game (in the form of random wild multipliers) and in the bonus (in the form of collecting gold heads to convert animal symbols to buffalos) caught on with players quickly.
So it makes sense to give that sequel its own sequel – and again, Aristocrat nailed it with Buffalo Gold Revolution. Once again adding something for both the base game and the bonus to build upon the previous game, it continues to deliver that perfect balance of giving players something more without ruining the core gameplay that makes the series so successful.
It was a natural for this game to make the jump online, so keep reading to see where you can play this game online. We’ll also share with you the key changes this game introduces.
Base Game
Following in its predecessors, Buffalo Gold Revolution is a 5×4 reel set with 1,024 ways to win with its all ways pays format. The online version matches the in-casino version of requiring 75 credit bet increments, making the original game 75 cents. While that’s higher than many online games, that bet level adds a series of enhancements to both the base game and the bonus.
As we shared analyzing this series in the past, seeking a lower bet is best accomplished by simply playing a version of Buffalo without as many bells and whistles, such as the original Buffalo or Buffalo Gold. So we have less qualms about this.
The pay table is identical to that of Buffalo and Buffalo Gold, meaning that you’re paying more per spin. But Aristocrat has added in a random feature that can turn some or all of the non-buffalo animal symbols to buffalo, improving the overall payout of that spin. This is on top of the multiplier wilds feature that was added to the base game of the original Buffalo Gold, and that helps take the edge off of the bigger bets per spin.
Two progressives are also added to the game, which can be awarded during the first portion of the Free Games bonus.
Free Games
Three or more coins trigger the free games. More coins, like any other Buffalo variation, gives you more free games. The core gold head collection mechanism of the free games carries over from Buffalo Gold, with milestones in gold head collection turning other animal symbols into buffalo heads, and 15 collected will transform all the premium symbols are buffalo heads. It’s a classic bonus format that many players love to chase.
But before the free games itself start, the additional wrinkle added to Buffalo Gold Revolution is a wheel (which explains the name). You get up to five spins of the wheel, with the chance to collect credit prizes, gold heads, one of the two progressives, or the dreaded Free Games wedge, which ends the wheel portion and moves to the Free Games.
Each spin where you don’t start the free games, the prize is awarded and then the wheel is upgraded with better credit prizes and gold head counts, until the fifth spin where a final upgrade occurs but all spaces have the Start Free Games label.
Once the wheel portion is complete, this is effectively the Buffalo Gold bonus. You start with the number of gold heads collected off the wheel. Wilds now always carry a 2x or 3x multiplier, and you only need two coins to retrigger (but, like the original bonus trigger itself, more coins will deliver more spins).
