Ticket into slot machine

Brian Christopher (or Raymond) will oftentimes create larger tickets ahead of his live streams so we don’t have to wait for him to feed a machine with $100 bills. But aside from that benefit, are there other benefits?

Is it luckier to sit down and play inserting one large ticket (ie. $1,000 ticket) versus adding cash to the machine as you play?

Jodi E.

There’s no difference to a slot machine whether you put cash in or a ticket (or free play), and it doesn’t pay a player back better in either direction based on how much you put in.

We do sometimes advise players not to put big tickets into machines for one key reason, though: It can be easier to get carried away and play more than you planned in the chase of whatever you might be chasing on that game – a bonus, a progressive, etc.

When you put bills in one at a time, and play off each bill, it forces us as players to take a moment each time the machine beeps that you’re out of money: Do I want to put another bill into this machine, or am I ready to move on?

Of course, if you’re doing bets like Brian, it may be impractical to be feeding a bill every few spins. But for most players doing smaller bets, it’s a fair consideration. In fact, we’ve seen many times players take big tickets after significant wins to the ticket cashing machines to break them down into smaller bills before continuing. That’s not a bad practice from a bankroll management perspective.

So no, it won’t give you better luck one way or another – the slot ultimately doesn’t care. But from a cash management perspective, it may be savvier not to put too much into a machine at one time, mostly so you have an excuse to get up if things aren’t going your way.
