Today’s question is one we get quite a bit from players who see something fantastic happen on a machine, and wonder if that means it’s tapped out:
What’s your opinion on playing machines that have just paid out a large amount to someone else? If you see someone win big on a certain machine do you have any hesitation about playing it right after?
Tara
Overall, we don’t have any hesitation playing it. The chances of another payout happening right after are the same as it happening the first time, so we’re not worried about the fact it just paid. Slots have these big payouts designed within their overall payback structure, so there’s no “money to be made back” or anything like that which we often hear from players – that’s just a myth.
And those who have watched Brian Christopher long enough will know that he does back-up spins, and on occasion get something spectacular on back-up spins – you shouldn’t fear a machine that just hit – it certainly has the potential to hit again, if your timing is right!
Now, the thing that may be worth considering is the progressives. If the big win came with a progressive that has now reset, there may be other machines that are like it on the floor with better progressives. If your odds are the same for winning that prize, wouldn’t you want to play for the highest prize in case you do win it?
So if you’re in a bank of Lightning Links and that big win was a higher Major progressive that now reset to $500, and the machine next door has a higher Major, you might want to consider playing the machine with the higher Major. But the chances of winning it on either machine, presuming the same bet, will be the same, so even though one just hit and one has been awhile, your chances aren’t any different.
