Sometimes we get questions that don’t have a specific answer, and veer more towards opinion. That doesn’t scare us:
When you go to a casino with $250 and play all day but come back home with $250, is it winning?

While technically it’s not “winning” because you broke even, we certainly would call it winning nonetheless. Why? Because you effectively got a free afternoon of entertainment.
Think about it – in virtually every other case, whether going out to eat, seeing a movie, or visiting another city, there’s some sort of investment involved in that entertainment. Aside from whatever you spent getting to/from the casino, and perhaps anything else spent on property like a meal, you’ve basically had a free day of fun at the casino.
Of course, it doesn’t always go that way – sometimes it can be an expensive visit. Sometimes it can be a profitable one! Gambling as a form of entertainment is one of the rare scenarios where you can have fun and potentially come out ahead. As long as you’re not going in with the expectation that it absolutely must or will happen, and just enjoy it regardless of outcome, you can have those lovely days along the way.
And of course, your play will still generate offers, even if you break even, meaning your next visit should yield something, even if it’s a bit of free play or a few dollars to grab a snack. And in that way, you’re also making your next trip that much more enjoyable thanks to the time you invested on the previous one, even if that trip wasn’t a financial investment.
So yes, we would consider it a win, given the potential outcomes that could come out of such a visit – we should celebrate when we leave with our bankroll in tact, as it means we can make a return visit in the future!
