Awhile back we wrote about a slot industry term, pre-cog – it’s a sign before a spin completes that something good is about to happen. Well, there’s also the concept of a post-cog – a scenario that occurs after the reels stop.
The term is also sometimes called a “last chance,” and it makes sense because it’s the final shot something can take place before the spin is complete. In that way it can be a saving moment from a spin that would otherwise be a losing one. And, given the post-cog element is designed to indicate something important, just like a pre-cog element, it’s usually a good outcome.
An example of this is the pot on the Prosperity Link series. When you get less than six cash on reel orbs, the pot can shake and throw down more orbs in order to trigger the bonus. This differs from the firecracker animation, which announces in advance that something is about to occur.
The Lucky Envelope series by Konami is another example. Normally, wilds on the first two reels are a catalyst for collecting prizes on the final three reels. But if only one Wild appears, sometimes after the spin is complete it can nudge the second wild into view, triggering the feature and collecting the prizes.
Online slots take advantage of this as well. The collect symbol can nudge into place on the Breaking Bad Collect ‘Em & Link slot machine, and if you have two bonus symbols on many Big Bass series games, a hook can snag a third one and move it into view for a bonus.
While many of us are now accustomed to the shaky shaky and the good fortune has arrived pre-cog elements, the post-cog is a rarely employed, but often exciting moment that can quickly spin a losing spin into a much more exciting one.
